2009 Jones Family Vineyards Estate Cabernet“It can take a while to get a good handle on what a site needs in a given year. 2009 was our second consecutive drought year and our first adjustment to the vineyard was the decision early on to leave more fruit on the vine to achieve greater hang time. Not only can some of the outer fruit serve as a shield against super hot afternoon temperatures, but as a whole the greater quantity of fruit slows ripening and allows us to extend the growing season into the shorter, cooler days of late September for our last ripening push.
For me, the greater true ripening this strategy achieved is the major difference between the 2008 and 2009 vintages. The 2009 Jones Family Vineyards Estate Cabernet is a denser, richer wine that features all of the character of years past: crushed blueberries and blackberries, a small caramelized brown sugar/maple syrup note and white flowers on the nose, while eschewing some of the herbal components of the 2008. The wine is remarkably accessible now but has the concentration and extract to lay down for a while. "

"The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate emerges from the glass with juicy red berries, mint, flowers and sweet spices. It is a fairly immediate, plush wine best enjoyed over the next few years." 92 points,

“Dark ruby-red. Captivating, nuanced nose combines black raspberry, black olive, tobacco and hot rocks. Very suave, rich and minerally, with a slightly roasted quality that may be from some dehydrated grapes. Finishes with serious tannins and lingering flavors of purple fruit, menthol and licorice. In spite of some very ripe notes, this wine conveys a juicy quality that should give it plenty of early appeal.” 92 points
